See Our View Through Rosé Colored Glasses

By Megan Wade

Not long ago, mentioning Rosé to a serious wine-o was laughable. Those days are a distant memory as Rosé has seen an explosive rebirth. Throughout the world, and Chelan is no exception, winemakers are paying attention to the demand for Rosé.

Riverbend Rosé bottled in early March 2017.

In fact, Rosé is perhaps the oldest known type of wine. Wine anthropologists have concluded that Rosé may have led the way to all other wines because of straightforward production and lack of aging required. Fast forward, to present day where hashtags and Instagram have rocketed Rosé into demand. “Yes Way Rosé”, Rosé All Day, a Pinknic Rosé Festival, and even our own “Come See Our View Through Rosé Colored Glasses” all speak to the fun carefree days of summer, friends and a refreshing glass of wine on a hot day.

Enjoyable throughout the year, but specifically in the summer months, Rosé is quickly becoming a crowd favorite.  At Fielding Hills Winery our Rosé is done in the style of Chinon Rosé from the Chinon AOC in France. In this area of France Cabernet Franc is King.  Our Riverbend Rosé is a 100% Cabernet Franc Estate Rosé from our Riverbend Vineyard in the Wahluke Slope AVA.  It offers subtle, crisp hints of our historically bold and fruit-forward red program. With only 90 cases produced in 2016, it will disappear quickly. Our Riverbend Rosé features aromas of orange peel, mountain strawberries, and tart red plum are in abundance. In addition ripe blood orange cranberry preserve and a hint of fresh cut red-capsicum showcase on the palate.

Riverbend Rosé released June 8th, 2017.

In the last three years, the reaction to Riverbend Rosé has developed something of a cult following. Guests set alerts and reminders to be first to order on release day and wine club members max out the preorder allotments.

Rosé is so much like summer on the shores of Lake Chelan…  we wildly anticipate its arrival and daydream of long lazy carefree days and just like that, blink (or drink) and it’s gone. June 8th is the day to get your Rosé and welcome summer at Fielding Hills.
