You’ve known Fielding Hills for over 20 years as a premium red wine producer. In 2015, shortly after building our tasting room and production facility at Lake Chelan, we decided to add summer wines and white wines to our portfolio. With Mike’s focus on bold, fruit-forward reds and Karen’s passion for round, smooth Chardonnay, it was fortuitous when Tyler Armour joined the team in 2014 and the stage was set for a white wine program. Tyler brings a depth of knowledge to our winemaking team and is the driving force behind the production of our white wines and Rose’.
Tyler began with the 2014 Cabernet Franc Riverbend Rosé. We only produced 25 cases of the 2014 Cabernet Franc Riverbend Rosé and when it was released…it sold out in one weekend. Today, depending on the crop, we make over 100 cases annually. (However, we don’t recommend waiting to order this wine…it always sells out very quickly.) With such a
great response to our Rosé, we began the decision-making process to decide what white wines Fielding Hills would make. Karen Wade, owner/manager of FHW, picked the first two, her favorites Chardonnay and Roussanne. The third white wine took us a while to decide on. Tyler suggested Chenin Blanc and as we researched Chenin Blanc we fell in love with its story and Chenin Blanc became the third white wine at Fielding Hills Winery.
Once the varietals were chosen, we began planting. In 2016, Riverview Vineyard was born. It is a stone’s throw from Riverbend Vineyard and features nearly identical climate and soil. The 2019 vintage will be the first release of our estate fruit, prior to that we worked with Willard Vineyard (2018 Chenin, 2018 Roussanne, 2018 Chardonnay) and Rothrock Vineyard (2016 and 2017 Chenin Blanc).
In 2020, we will finally be able to share what we call our “Summer Release” with you. This release includes 4 wines; our Riverbend Rose, Chenin Blanc, Roussanne, and Chardonnay.
